The CD takes listeners on a musical journey rich with the sounds of jazz, soul, funk, fusion and Latin music, including seven original Peter Lerner tunes inspired by his musical influences while growing up on the South Side of Chicago, as well as two tunes by artists that influenced Lerner: Kenny Burrell’s “Chitlin’s Con Carne” and “Polkadots & Moonbeams” by Johnny Burke and Jimmy Van Heusen.
Call guitarist Peter Lerner a musical chameleon, because the range of jazz styles he embraces on his solo debut is mighty expansive… Peter Lerner is one of Chicago’s finest guitarists, a player with great technique and equal amounts of soul and versatility. And as the writer of seven of the album’s nine tunes, he’s no slouch as a songwriter, either.
